Senior Electrical Engineer
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Reporting to the Electrical & Controls Manager, the incumbent’s responsibilities include producing complete design packages for the electrical systems for Stewart & Stevenson’s manufactured products. There are no direct reports to this position, although the supervision of technicians may occasionally be required during activities such as fieldwork, testing and custom fabrication.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Plan, design and analyze electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, assemblies, sub assemblies and components.

Perform advanced electrical system circuit and controls design and analysis one generator sets, well stimulation and drilling machinery and specialty off-road vehicles, including electrical systems and sub systems design and selection of all electrical components, wiring harness design and construction.

Manage subcontractors and suppliers on a daily basis.

Read and interpret electrical blueprints, technical drawings, schematics and computer generated reports.

Analyze complex purchased parts and fabricated components to assure functional compatibility to design requirements.

Confer with vendors, staff and management regarding product specifications and manufacturing capabilities to achieve desired design.

Maintain documentation necessary to fulfill regulatory requirements including ISO 9001.

Assist designers in developing the electrical design of products, using drafting tools or computer –assisted design/drafting equipment and software.

Responsible for complex product designs for all electrical functions typically found in diesel engine driven rotary machinery.

Responsible for complex product design for all electrical functions typically found in diesel engine transmissions.

Confer with other engineers and staff to implement operation procedures, resolve system malfunctions and provide technical information.

Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.

Investigate complex equipment failures and system malfunctions and recommend design modifications to eliminate such equipment or system malfunctions.

Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost and maintenance of designs or applications.

Oversee installations to ensure that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications.

May explain and demonstrate electrical engineering techniques to lower level engineers\designers. Assist lower level engineers\designers in resolving complex technical problems.

Responsible for complex software designs for controls on electric drilling rigs.

Responsible for complex data highway implementations for data acquisition on drilling rigs.

Responsible for complex PLC controls and designs to meet required specifications.

Assist with production on technical questions and problems.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
-
Post-secondary education in electrical, instrumentation or electronics is required,
-
Five years minimum industry experience with mobile oilfield electrical systems is required.

Using AutoCAD to create schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, simple mechanical drawings, etc.
-
Programming skills are an asset.
-
P. Eng designation required.
